Migrations
Migration process
Database migration involves transferring data from one system to another while changing the storage, database, or application. To ensure a smooth and successful migration, several steps need to be followed. These include:
- Planning and Analysis: This includes defining the scope, goals, risks and timeline of the migration project. This also includes identifying the source and target systems, the data types and formats, the migration tools and methods, and the testing and validation procedures.
- Extraction and transformation: The data is extracted from the source system and transformed into a format compatible with the target system. This may include data cleaning, filtering, mapping, aggregation, splitting, merging, or other operations.
- Load and verify: The transformed data is loaded into the target system and its integrity, quality and performance are checked. This may include data validation, reconciliation, testing, or other checks.
- Post-Migration Activities: This includes fixing any problems or errors encountered during the migration process and performing necessary adjustments or optimizations on the target system. This may also include documenting the migration process and results, and providing training or support to users of the new system.
